At its most basic explanation, a slip lead is a collar - leash combination. This design has been around for years and is widely utilized by dog training professionals worldwide. This leash is not meant to replace a standard leash and collar set up, it is exclusively a training tool. The function of a slip lead is to tighten under tension and release once the tension itself is released similar to how a "training" or "correction" collar works.
How to size properly:
First, you will move the stopper towards the handle end of the leash and make the loop large enough to go over the dogs head. Once successful, you will bring the stopper back towards the dogs neck. The desired size here will be not too tight, choking the dog, and not too loose, can slip over the head the dog upon pulling. A good measurement is if you are able to fit two fingers in between the slip lead and the neck
When to use:
- Transporting a dog to and from location quickly
- Loading & unloading dogs
- As a training aid
When not to use:
- If your dog is unsupervised
- If you plan to let your dog drag the leash
- Dogs who are prone to pulling
- If you dog is not leash trained
- NEVER to be used as a tie out.
